Inventory

The pharmaceutical discovery process becomes more factory like. The process only works smooth if the raw materials are available (just) in time. Especially, when testing thousands of compounds per day, the logistics of feeding the screening lab with a continuous stream of substances, sometimes pre-qualified, is a tremendous issue.

Such an inventory does not look any more like the stockroom, you are used form your university times, and will be fed by substances coming from analysis, from automated sample preparations, from the screening laboratory, are purchased and are synthesized by the chemical laboratories.

The inventory is much more important than earlier and no wonder the largest demand at MDL for customized solutions comes from the need to have a functioning sample management and reagent tracking system (MDL® SMART).

Screenshots of SMART:

MDL developed the web based SMART and the ISIS or VB based CIMS (Chemical Inventory Management System). There are modules that link to SAP, to safety information, to automatic scales and much more.

You still can buy CIMS, but we recommend Symyx® Logistics.

Symyx® Logistics is a complete Isentris-based solution for managing the reagent procurement and inventory process in your organization. It leverages the Symyx® Available Chemicals Directory — the world's largest electronic collection of chemical supplier catalogs, the in-house inventory, the OHS Pure Substance database — a hosted electronic encyclopedia of product safety information and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and the OHS EH&S Data Elements for risk and saftey phrases and hazard class information. MDL Logistics integrates with various financial business systems and laboratory hardware devices, which increases the value of the investment by providing employee time savings and productivity gains. Out-of-the-box regulatory management capabilities can be leveraged to help reduce costs associated with ensuring compliance. MDL Logistics is the successor of Symyx® CIMS and Symyx® SMART. Customer comments on MDL Logistics

"With the increasing number of reagents and intermediates managed by Boehringer Ingelheim, it is critical that users have access to a reagent management system that streamlines the ordering and procurement process by reducing errors, preventing duplicate ordering, and providing side-by-side access to internal reagents. MDL Logistics allows us to manage internal stores and commercial catalogs effectively, while also providing seamless integration with SAP which is transparent to the end user." — Dr. Gerhard Mihm, Boehringer Ingelheim
